Definition @ Aspect

Hue~

  • The property of colors by which they can be perceived as ranging from red to yellow,green and blue,determined by the wavelength of the light.
  • Refers to the pure color in painting color theory~one without tint and shade.





Value~
  • Lightness or darkness of color.
  • Shadows, darkness, contrasts and light.








Saturation~
  • The amount of brightness/purity of a hue.
  • Higher saturation = less white
    Lower saturation = more white
  • Also known as chroma.


Secondary color~
  • Mixing two primary color in equal proportions.
  • cyan (a mixture of blue and green), magenta (a mixture of blue and red), and yellow (a mixture of green and red). 
  • Each secondary color is also the complementary color of the primary color whose wavelength it does not contain. 



Tertiary color~
  • Mixing either one primary color with one secondary color OR two secondary color.

RGB or CMY primary, secondary, and tertiary colors

Analogous color~
  • Colors which are related to each other.
  • With one being the dominant color, which tends to be a primary or secondary color, and two on either side complimenting, which tend to be tertiary.
  • Example : The Violet (a secondary color) has been made by mixing red and blue (both primary colors). 


Tint~
  • Mixture of color with white, which increases lightness.


Shade~
  • Mixture of color with black, which reduces brightness.



Monochromatic color~
  •  Derived from a single base hue, and extended using its shades, tones and tints.







Warm Color~
  •  Warm colors are often said to be hues from red through yellow, browns and tans included.
  • Appear more active in a painting.
  • Seems arouse or stimulate the viewer




Cool Color~
  •  Hues from blue green through blue violet, most grays included.
  •  Tend to recede; used in interior design or fashion.
  • Calm and relax.
